Set just before WW1, the story focusses on the friendship of Jules and Jim, and the capricious Catherine who begins to date Jules.
In my opinion, the whole film is completely stolen by the beautiful Catherine, played by Jeanne Moreau, who infatuates both Jules and Jim. Of course it's a classic love triangle, but I won't give away the ending! Of course like a lot of brilliant stories, Jules et Jim is based on the loosely autobiographical novel by Henri-Pierre Roché, and is definitely worth a read!
Sometimes though I'm not sure if it's the story or if I'm just a sucker for breton stripes and boatnecks..
The whole way through I was thinking about how great the breton stripes and boat necks were and that perhaps I should watch this movie... Perhaps once I've seen it I'll at least pretend it's the story line that drew me in :P
