Big bouncy curls courtesy of Boilerhouse

I love trips to the hairdressers. There's nothing more relaxing than being able to chat away, catching up on gossip, (my hairdresser is an old friend so I'm not subjected to the usual 'going away anywhere nice?' type of small talk), while you're having your head massaged then leaving with nice shiny hair. So you can imagine how excited I was when I was invited along to Boilerhouse last week for some pampering and a trial of the Schwarzkopf BC Fibre Force treatments and products! Any excuse.

Now I'm a firm believer that once you've found a great hairdresser, you should always stay faithful to them. Good hairdressers are like good friends. They'll be honest when they need to, they'll understand what you mean when you don't explain yourself properly, and they'll make you feel better about yourself no matter what is happening. So that being said, I've never visited Boilerhouse before but I had heard great things about the salon. Heading over there to meet Fen after work with Alex (who was in need of cheering up), we were greeted with prosecco and told that we could either try out some hair treatments from the BC Fibre Force range or enjoy a manicure. Being a nail biter, I thought the manicure would be a wasted effort on my ragged mits, and I couldn't resist having my hair played with for a couple of hours!

Before the event, I'd been sent out some of the products and noticing a huge difference in the general condition of my hair. It's very moisturising without being too heavy and making your hair greasy. I'm going to be writing up a full review soon though, so stay posted! On the night of the event though, we were treated to the BC Fibre Force Keratin Infusion, along with the accompanying products I'd already been trying out: BC Fibre Force Shampoo, BC Fibre Force Rinse Out Conditioner, BC Fibre Force Spray Conditioner and BC Fibre Force Fortifier Treatment. Using formulas with Micronized Hair-Identical Keratins, the products are designed to penetrate deeply into the hair repairing any kind of damage you've submitted your locks to over the years and leaving you with strong and resilient hair fibre.

Before applying my treatments and washing my hair, I'd had a quick chat with my stylist for the evening, Saskia about how I'd like my hair to be blow dried. Usually when I've been to the salon, I come out with nice sleek straight hair, but she talked me into try a Chelsea curls blowdry for a change. Having naturally curly hair, I actually find when I try to recreate curls using straighteners, they always drop out almost immediately. It's like for around 10 minutes I have perfect curls, then the start to relax and I'm left with relatively straight hair. When I was telling this to Saskia, she explained that this was because I wasn't allowing the curls time to set. Instead, I was curling the hair and as it was cooling, the weight of my hair was pulling the curls out. It's sounds so obvious when someone tells you but since I'm not a huge hair and beauty person, it never even occurred to me! She showed me that instead I should pin up my curls, allow them time to cool down and set. Then once they'd done so I could unpin and deconstruct the ringlets for a looser style. As you can see from the snaps, I left the salon with big bouncy curls, a fantastic goody bag and lots of styling tips! While I will still be staying faithful to my hairdresser, I'm definitely planning another trip to Boilerhouse soon to have my nails done.. that is if I can stop biting them and let them grow little!
